About

The Story Behind Legacy & Grain

A trade passed down. A craft carried forward.

Legacy & Grain is built on one belief: good craftsmanship means understanding the materials, respecting the process and taking pride in what you leave behind.

Our name reflects two parts of that belief: the knowledge passed down through generations, and the craft we carry forward.

The Legacy & Grain mark: an L for legacy, wood grain for the craft and a tree for growth, joined into the LG monogram

Legacy

A trade passed down.

Legacy is where the craft begins: the knowledge, experience and values one generation shares with the next.

For Tom, that connection is personal. His father introduced him to carpentry, taught him what he knew and passed down the skills that first drew him to the trade. Those early lessons are still part of how he works today.

Legacy, to us, is what we choose to carry forward.

Grain

The craft carried forward.

Grain is the craft itself. It's our connection to carpentry and woodworking, to the character of natural materials, and to the care that goes into shaping something with purpose.

Every piece of wood has its own character, and every project brings its own challenges. Good workmanship comes from understanding those details, working with the materials and taking the time to get things right.

That's the craft we keep building on and refining through our work.

Our founder

Built on experience. Rooted in legacy.

Tom is a second-generation carpenter, and his connection to the trade started with his father. They worked together for only a small part of Tom's career, but his father's guidance, knowledge and skills stayed with him.

Tom has 15 years of experience in the carpentry and construction trades, along with formal carpentry training and apprenticeship through BCIT. His passion for carpentry and woodworking, and his respect for materials and good workmanship, still guide his approach.

For Tom, carpentry is a connection to his family, a craft he loves and a tradition he's proud to carry forward.

Legacy & Grain honours that foundation while building something of its own: a professional company grounded in craftsmanship, clear communication and workmanship we can stand behind.
